Sterling Silver
At Nature by Dezign we are proud to say that our jewelry is crafted from sterling silver.
Pure silver or fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft and malleable to be used for producing items like jewelry.
By combining other metals or alloys to this precious metal a more durable composite is formed.
Typically, copper is the alloy metal used in sterling silver. Although alternative metals are also favored.
The silver content of sterling silver is 92.5% and the remaining 7.5% is the copper or other alloy metal.
Buying sterling silver jewelry
When purchasing sterling silver jewelry you should look for the 925 stamp on the silver which denotes its standard and quality.
Further stamps, or hallmarks include; .925, sterling silver, sterling, ster. The name of the country where the piece was made may also be its hallmark.
Caring for sterling silver jewelry
When you are not wearing your sterling silver jewelry wrap it up in a protective soft cloth or jewelry pouch.
Separating your sterling silver jewelry from your other jewelry will lessen the chance of it being scratched by a harder metal.
Removing tarnish from sterling silver jewelry
-
A natural process in the air causes sterling silver to tarnish, or discolor.
A simple way to slow this process down is to store your sterling silver jewelry in an air-tight bag.
We recommend using a sterling silver polishing cloth on all of our jewelry to eliminate the tarnish.
For the most part our sterling silver jewelry is inlaid with natural shell or stone. To avoid damaging this inlay we suggest not using any harsh cleaning solutions to remove tarnish from the silver. A quick rub with a sterling silver cleaning cloth will remove all tarnish without harming the shell or stone.
